Audio Files

A Universe of Notes
  • This audio explanation of the electromagnetic spectrum makes an analogy between sound and light. Just as nature is full of sounds that humans can not hear, the universe is full of light with too little or too much energy for human eyes to detect. NASA's multiwavelength telescopes let us tune in to the whole range of electromagnetic signals from the universe. (Source: SAO's Cosmic Questions exhibit)

Wakeup calls are a long-standing tradition of the NASA program. Each day during the mission, flight controllers in the Mission Control Center greeted the crew with an appropriate musical interlude:

STS-93 wakeup call, flight day 6 "A Little Traveling Music" - Barry Manilow

STS-93 wakeup call, flight day 5 "The Sound of Silence" - Simon and Garfunkel

STS-93 wakeup call, flight day 4 "Someday Soon" - Suzy Boguss

STS-93 wakeup call, flight day 3 "Brave New Girls" - Teresa

STS-93 wakeup call, flight day 2 "Beep Beep" - Louis Prima

Note: wav files are high quality and therefore large. They are best for faster connections. RealAudio files tend to be much smaller and are better for slower connections.
