During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 19 describing observations of a region called NGC 6357 where radiation from hot, young stars is energizing the cooler gas in the cloud that surrounds them. Data from four different telescopes using X-ray, optical, and infrared light were combined to study star formation in this region which contains at least three star clusters. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2016/ngc6357/ The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of 2MASX J08434495+3549 coordinated with NuSTAR, an observation of CGCG 341-006 coordinated with NuSTAR, an observation of GS 2000+25 coordinated with VLA, an observation of NovaSMC 2016, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Nov 8, a followup observation of SGR 0755-293 which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 17, and an observation of ASSASN-16oh, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Dec 19. |
