Friday 12 June 2009 9.00am EDT
| During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Chandra passed through the fourth and fifth eclipses of the 2009 summer eclipse season on June 7 and 9 with nominal power and thermal performance. A Chandra image release was issued on 9 June in conjunction with the AAS in Pasadena describing observations of the supernova remnant SNR 0104-72.3. The combined Chandra and Spitzer image shows an iron-rich lobe-dominated structure, unlike the more typical circular SNR structures. Possible explanations include a complex surrounding environment or an asymmetric explosion. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2009/snr0104/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
