Operations CXO Status Report

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release was issued on Mar 29 of the galaxy 3C442A. The image combines Chandra X-data with radio data from the VLA and shows that the hot gas in the middle of the galaxy is pushing apart the radio-bright gas. The inner sections of the radio structure are sharp and concave, which is consistent with the idea that the X-ray bright gas is sweeping the radio-emitting gas aside. This is the opposite to cases seen in other systems where radio jets push the hotter gas, and is the first convincing evidence for such a role reversal. The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes the next eight of a series of 36 tiled observations that will comprise the 0.7 square deg, 1.8 Ms, COSMOS survey.
