Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 October 2021 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to include a 20ks observation of SN2021aabp that was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Oct 8. A planned observation of PS16dtm was impacted and will be rescheduled at a later date. The replanned loads were uplinked on Oct 14.

A Chandra image release was issued on Oct 12 describing Chandra observations of the supernova remnant G344.7-0.1, combined with infrared data from Spitzer and radio data from ground-based telescopes. G344.7-0.1, located about 19,600 light years from Earth, originates from a class of supernovas called "Type Ia" that can result from a white dwarf accumulating material from a nearby companion star until the white dwarf explodes. Chandra data contribute the ability to map the distribution of heavy elements heated by shock waves. For more details see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2021/g344/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of 2020wnt, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on on Feb 10, an observation of EXO2030+375, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Sep 30, and an observation of MRK18 coordinated with NuSTAR.
