Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 26 February 2021 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Feb 23 presenting results based on data from Chandra and NuSTAR on Supernova 1987A, located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small companion galaxy to our own Milky Way. The new data suggest that the long-sought neutron star expected to be present as a remnant of the supernova explosion may have been detected through emission from a pulsar wind nebula that may surround a rapidly rotating and highly magnetized neutron star. For more details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/21_releases/press_022321.html

Of note this week was the release on Feb 23 of the catalog of crossmatched Chandra Source Catalog 2.0 sources and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR15 sources. For details see: https://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/csc2/csc_crossmatches.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of SDSSJ022429.10-0918, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Feb 5.
