Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 31 May 2019 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were executed on May 25, May 28 and May 30 to perform full-frame dark current readouts of the Aspect Camera Assembly CCD.

A Chandra press release was issued on May 28 describing archival analysis of Chandra data which revealed evidence that pairs of stars have been kicked out of their host galaxies. The team found signatures of X-ray binaries outside of galaxies in a comprehensive study of the Fornax galaxy cluster made with Chandra data taken between 1999 and 2015. The paper also describes about another 150 sources that appear to be outside the stellar boundaries of the galaxies within the cluster. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/19_releases/press_052819.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of AT2019ahk, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Apr 5 and is coordinated with ALMA and ATCA.
