Visual Description: CXO 0312 Fiore P3

This image is a composite of an optical view of a distant galaxy with X-ray contours overlaid. The optical image shows a faint, orange-red and green colored galaxy that appears pixelated with a fuzzy core. The galaxy is set against a sky blue backdrop. Overlaid on the optical image are light contours from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. These contours outline the shape of an unusually strong X-ray source concentrated in the central region of the galaxy.  Six vertical lines in the image are part of a grid to locate the source in the sky. The X-ray contours represent brightness levels and are consistent with a point-like source in the center of the galaxy. The colors in the optical image also represent brightness levels. The source name is CXOUJ, which defines its position in the sky.
