Thank you again to all those who participated in the Visualization Workshop. We hope you enjoyed the brainstorming & idea-sharing sessions as much as we did. Most talks have been posted in PowerPoint format (with linked movies separate) or as PDF. If you didn't get your talk to me during the workshop and would like to have it posted, please feel free to post to our ftp site. We are compiling a CD of clips from the Special Panel Presentation: A Meeting with the Media. If you would like us to send you a copy, please email.

The Education & Public Outreach group at the Chandra X-ray Center hosted an Astronomical Visualization workshop on November 3 and 4, 2005, in Cambridge, Mass. This informal workshop was intended to encourage the sharing of experiences and resources in producing astronomical images, illustrations and animations for public consumption. We hoped to bring together the producers of astronomical visualizations and public affairs specialists to foster improved communication.

This was intended to be a small, informal, but productive workshop to share specific techniques and discuss issues relevant to image production, animation development and press. In other words, we hoped this would be a "hands-on" experience for the attendees. Talks and demonstrations included such topics as:
  • Imaging: ds9, FitsLiberator & Photoshop
  • Virtual Repository: Metadata & Archive Interlinkage Issues
  • Coordinating Press Efforts & Sharing Resources
  • Animating Astronomical Topics
  • Illustrating the Universe
The workshop included two special days of sessions as part of the "6 Years of Chandra" symposium, which was held from November 2-4, 2005 at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, Mass. The symposium is held biannually to share the latest results from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. Past meetings have drawn up to 200 scientists from around the world.
