1. Travels of the Chandra Mirrors
The Chandra mirrors were polished and ground at Raytheon Optical Systems in Danbury, CT. They were then moved to Santa Rosa, CA, via a moving van, where they were cleaned & coated with iridium at Optical Coating Laboratories, Inc. The mirrors were then driven to Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY, where they were assembled. Next, the telescope system was put aboard a C5 military aircraft, flown to Huntsville, AL and delivered to the Marshall Space Flight Center for calibration. It was then flown to TRW (now NGST) in Redondo Beach, CA for integration. Finally, the whole observatory was flown to Cape Canaveral, FL and placed on the space shuttle for launch.
