Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 5 February 2016 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on Jan 31 to swap the prime solid-state recorder (SSR) from the B-side to the A-side. This swap concludes a six-month interval of health and trending data collection on SSR-B. A second real-time procedure was executed on Feb 2 to re-initialize the flight software Thruster Command Processing subfunction in order to prevent the occurrence of an overflow condition. A third real-time procedure was executed on Feb 4 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.

A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 2 describing observations of the galaxy Pictor A. A giant jet spanning continuously for over 300,000 light years is seen blasting out of the galaxy Pictor A. In addition to the main jet, there is evidence for a jet moving in the opposite direction. Chandra observations at various times over a 15-year period provide new details of this impressive system. The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of ASASSN-15lh, which is a follow-up Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity accepted on Oct 19, observations of SgrA* coordinated with NuSTAR, and observations of SDSS J1145+0322, SDSS J1228+3414, SDSS J1012+3244, SDSS J1245+0156, SDSS J1223+1241, and SDSS J1638+1151 coordinated with ground-based observatories.
