Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 29 August 2014 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on Aug 28 to re-initialize the flight software Thruster Command Processing subfunction in order to prevent the occurrence of an overflow condition. A flight software patch was uplinked on Aug 28 to update the on-board gyro calibration misalignment matrix. Real-time procedures were executed on Aug 28 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground.

A Chandra image release was issued on Aug 26 describing observations of the Eta Carinae double star system. It contains one of the biggest and brightest stars in our galaxy and is extremely volatile. This system has been observed by Chandra since its launch in 1999 and continues to reveal new clues about its nature and stellar winds through the X-rays that it generates. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/etacar/

The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes an observation of SN 2011fh coordinated with Spitzer.
