On July 23, we celebrated the 15th anniversary of Chandra's launch and 15 years of successful scientific operations. The spacecraft and instruments continue to operate superbly well and we look forward with excitement to the coming year of science discovery!

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the third, fourth, and fifth eclipses of the season on Jul 18, 21, and 23 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 22 as a NASA press release celebrating Chandra's 15th anniversary. To celebrate four new images of supernova remnants, the Crab Nebula, Tycho, G292.0+1.8, and 3C58, were released. These supernova remnants are very hot and energetic and glow brightly in X-ray light, which allows Chandra to capture them in exquisite detail. In addition to the images, Chandra scientists - including former CXC Director, Harvey Tananbaum - participated in a Google+ Hangout. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SGR 1935+2154, from a series which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jul 7, and an observation of V1180 Cas coordinated with ground-based observatories.
